After the great response that Season 2 Episode 10 “Perdition” received last night there is much speculation and buzz going around the internet about a couple of casting additions and or alterations. There are two unconfirmed rumors circulating right now and we’re gonna post ‘em both for you to mull over!
RUMOR #1 – Sister Nicci has been re-cast and will return in a recurring role…
Nobody knows what this one is really all about and after watching Perdition I am unsure as to whether or not there is much credence to this one but still, it would pose some interesting plot developments. Apparently she is set to return as of Season 2 Episode 13 (entitled “Princess”) but no official casting information has been released or at least none that I could find. If you know of something official than by all means email it to me and I’ll post it up.
Some of the quotes from around the web include….
Probably a better looking version.
So Nicci did not get burned to death then?, her Han saving her or the Keeper.
well for starters I think Jolene Blalock has a recurring role somewhere else? Also Nicci is huge in the coming books/seasons so they needed someone that can and do stick around like Cara. Really they should have started with one to begin with but Jolene Blalock was a promotional guest star.
I kind of agree that Sister Nicci being killed off that easily and that quickly really does go totally against the overall plot of the books. Nicci becomes a central figure in the storyline for a long time still to come however in the absence of Nicci it certainly does leave us in mystery, wondering where and what will happen next.
It’s like reading the books, only different!
RUMOR #2 -Katrina Law (from Spartacus: Blood and Sand) has been cast as a new Mord-Sith…
Katrina Law, who has been in shows like Chuck and Spartacus, has been cast to play the role of yet another sexy Mord-Sith named Garren in the upcoming Season 2 episodes number 18 and 19. It is not quite clear yet what her role in the plot will be and how she will affect the overall storyline but it should prove an interesting plot development.
I’m gonna go out on a limb for this one and give a prediction as to what I think this will involve.
Michael’s Prediction: Mistress Garren (Katrina Law’s character) comes after Cara in a big way for betraying, and ultimately helping to destroy, Darken Rahl. That would place the story arc in a pretty Cara-centric way but we have seen each character (including Zedd) get entire episodes devoted to them to help with overall character development. Remember when Darken Rahl appeared to Triana (Charisma Carpenter) and gave her a mission? I think Garren will be the one to execute that mission.

I think that the writers of this show are beginning to FAIL us, the viewers, IMMENSELY by adding the new twists to the series in an attempt to make the show unique from the books. They should not have killed Nicci in Episode 10 Perdition for two HUGE reasons; 1) Nicci is an imperative character to the storyline from the moment she is introduced to the very end of the series. 2) Nicci was killed while having Richard’s wizard powers so now he has no magic and without magic Richard becomes an entirely new character compared to the Richard from the novel. The writers are taking the excitement and intrigue away from the show by making such LARGE changes to the original storyline. My friends and I who watch this show regularly are EXTREMELY unhappy with these twists and changes, and are on the verge of not watching the show anymore at all as these new story lines are only disappointing us.
Well thank you for voicing your thoughts on the matter LoTS Fanatic. I can only reiterate what Terry Goodkind said when asked about the differences between the show and the books.
“No series (or mini-series, or feature film) can follow the underlying book exactly. Sam Raimi and his team want to keep the TV series true to my vision, so rest assured that I am going to be intimately involved in the writing of each of the episodes. If you love the book just the way it is, then enjoy the book for what it is and come to the TV series prepared to enjoy the show for what it is.”
Although they did not, as of the wikipedia posting, consult Mr. Goodkind about the show, it’s plot or it’s writing his message remains the same. Love the books for what they are and love the show for what it is.
I don’t know the books and frankly, at this point I’m not interested in them at all, I don’t want to spoil anything for myself. But I love the show, the writers are doing a great job!
Recasting Nicci is sad news for me, I love Jolene a lot but I can understand why they did it. I just hope she will be in something else soon.
