NEWS: Hell To The Yes (Or MEEP MEEP Mutha-Truckah)

In the last week there has been a great deal of rumor mongering, cries of anguish from overly obsessive fans, cries of anger from the other side of the overly obsessive fan base and even sighs of dismay from those who are only quasi-pseudo-partially in to the show. All of these have had a profound affect on the overall moral of the fan base and, as you can tell by our last posting date, things got very still and very quiet.

There were signs of life however; You could hear the rustle of paper and pen as letters were being drafted and sent to the studios. You could hear the whine of the air raid siren as the saturation bombing began of a Tribune Executives corporate email account, which was posted on Twitter, and retweeted by hundreds of people. Word gets around fast on Twitter.

There was little word from the Legend of the Seeker camp itself and then all of a sudden, guess what?

Mike Sussman responded to these rumors last week showing a photo from Legend of the Seeker with the caption “Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated”. For those that don’t know, it’s a Mark Twain thing. It could have been wishful thinking, it could have been a last ditch effort to influence Tribune or it could have just been the Last Act of Defiance (sort of like when a mouse extends a middle digit upwards as the Eagle is screaming down to attack). Regardless of whatever it was, it seems to have stirred the community and is, at the least, very uplifting to fans of the show.

In fact, there have been a recent rash of news articles dealing with the issue from some pretty high profile “news agencies”. Agencies like E-Online who recently posted an article entitled “Hell to the Yes”.

Great news, Legend of the Seeker fans! You may have heard rumors that your show had been canceled, but we just talked with an inside source close to the show, and well, the rumors are just not true.

Yes, the Tribune Station Group is dropping Legend of the Seeker in a lot of markets, but that’s not the end of the road for Richard (Craig Horner), Kahlan (Bridget Regan) and Cara (Tabrett Bethell). Here’s the good news that we’ve heard about the future of our favorite cult-hit fantasy series:

Insiders tell us that ABC Studios, which produces Legend of the Seeker, is not letting Tribune’s decision be a show killer. We’re told that ABC has every desire to bring the show back for a third season and studio bosses are “exploring their options” for where and how to air a potential third season.

Long story short, if the ax is falling on LOTS, it’ll be weeks and months before we know for sure, but Tribune’s decision is not a death knell. So don’t panic, kiddos, and how about we channel all that nervous energy into some serious fan activism?

So, what’s our suggestion for an alternate home for Legend of the Seeker? We say ABC should either convince the CW to air it on Fridays at 9 p.m. after Smallville, resulting in a “sexy genre show” two-night block for the network (Vampire Diaries and Supernatural on Thursdays, Smallville and LOTS on Fridays), or it should sell the show to Syfy, not least because Legend’s ratings are at least as good as anything that Caprica and Stargate Universe are putting up.

Gotta tell you, I’m in total agreement. Putting Legend of the Seeker after Smallville on prime time would definitely increase the sexiness of the show in addition to giving it a more respectable time slot and a chance at really working the numbers. Add to that a decent amount of actual advertisement and *gasp* you might have an even MORE successful show.

I disagree on the selling to Sy-fy however only because Sy-fy has a history of canceling great shows like Stargate SG1, Farscape, Jeremiah and others. Just look at what Sy-Fy did to the last Highlander movie once they purchased the rights…. (yes, I just tasted bile).

You see, the numbers that Legend of the Seeker seems to be getting are damn good considering there is almost zero advertisement of the show. Hell, another little show called Heroes, and another one called Chuck, receive large amounts of media coverage and advertising and have numbers not much better than Legend of the Seeker. Now, imagine you take our little-show-that-could and give it some light, spread the word, make it mainstream; what would you get? You’d get a meep meep typhoon baby!!!

Mark my words, some smart executive somewhere is going to earn that $250,000.00 a year job and figure this one out! He will then be renamed Mr. Midas by fans, competitors and coworkers alike cause that mutha-truckah be spinnin gold!!!

For now, all we can do is hope that another network picks up Legend of the Seeker and that plans go forward into the new season.

So endeth the rant…..

On a side note many people have been asking me where the Meep Meep Muthatrucka comes from… It is originally from the YouTube videos about Policeman Versus Firefighter located here (starting at about 1m 35 seconds in): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jezSeQnfCg Yes, the reason I use it is cause… well… I’m not a blue canary put it that way :P
